RISE International is planning a worldwide memorial day on August 10, 2008 to commemorate the deaths of children and adults born and/or raised in cults. ‘The Lost Children’ memorial will be held to remember the many second and even third generation children born and/or raised in cults whose lives were cut short through suicide, physical/mental abuse, medical neglect, drug overdose, murder and cultic fighting groups such as the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Northern Uganda. RISE International and Safe Passage Foundation are working together to organize this event, which will be held in London (UK), Huntington Beach (California, USA) and Gulu (Uganda).

Memorial website:
A website has been created to honor the memory of the Lost Children: http://memorial.riseinternationalcic.org

It is still under development and we need your help to improve it.
If you have a deceased friend, relative or loved born or raised in a cult whom you would like remembered here, please let us know.

You can email us: memorial@riseinternationalcic.org their information or create an account to enter it yourself. Multimedia content such as images, video and audio can also be added. We are also actively seeking volunteers to help with various tasks including adding content, completing data collection, research and fact checking.

Please let us know if any information we have listed  is incorrect or incomplete and we will make sure it is corrected or updated as soon as possible. If you need help or have a question about the memorial site, please post it in the RISE International forum.

The Lost Children memorial day will also celebrate our achievements as survivors. A yearly Outstanding Survivor Award will be presented during the event. If you know someone who you feel deserves recognition you can nominate them on the website.

I was kindly asked if i would give a short talk at this event, and readily agreed. To say i was nervous is an understatement, i didn't quite know what to expect.

On behalf of the organizers i felt it was a shame more people didn't turn up as i know how much work must have gone on putting it all together. There were about 25 people in all and i was told this same event was also being held in Uganda and Huntington Beach, California.

The atmosphere was lovely in a semi darkened room filled with candlelight, music and very special for me was the group of like minded people who filled the room with warmth and love.

It was interesting listening to the talks given by other people about the cult experiences they had had. I was the only one talking about Scientology. The common theme that ran through all the cults talked about was one of subservience and unquestionable loyalty to the leader. It was quite an eye opener.

Being a first time for me on a stage with a microphone and a spot light it was a bit daunting and although i intended to stick to my carefully prepared written talk, everything kind of went out the window.Hopefully i got my points across without fluffing it up too much. It has been video recorded and when it is ready i will add it to my story.

A lantern was lit and a minutes silence was held for those who had died in cults. The whole event was a very touching experience. It is heart breaking to know just how many lives are lost and /or sabotaged due to the egotistical, psychopathic nature of these so called "messiahs".

A large group of us set off for a meal at a Greek restaurant where much talk and laughter was had by all. A very special ending to a very special day.

It was wonderful to meet all of you lovely people. A very special "Thank you" to Alex, Kristina and Celeste. Thank you also to James for coming and giving much needed support for both me and ex scientology kids.

This is a very worth while cause and i hope more people will find their way to next years event.

I had no idea there was such a group.
Thank You Sharon for doing that.

Another positive in the world!
