I started to get really disappointed at the level of resistance they are putting up.

They could at least try.

Anonymous needs to be ready for this type of tactic. DM is confrontational and he loves a good fight. Be prepared for instigators posing as Anonymous to get the overall group discredited.

The best thing to do is as Kendra says, follow the protest rules and if someone tries to start some incident, back away and contact the police if needed.
If it's not fun and doesn't make you happy, DON'T DO IT !!!

As soon as somone spots something suspicous they yell for all the protestors to sit down and do nothing. Brilliant
