And since "celebrity" in Scientology has issues associated with it that, say, Methodism or Hinduism doesn't, your post shares certain aspects with Scientology propaganda.

Why does these people's celebrity status somehow put them above others? I don't think it should. It just makes their names better known. They weren't always famous and maybe they won't be some day. I agree it shouldn't give them an ego. I admire and glorify these people. You don't want to. You don't have to. Enough. I agree celebrities should not be glorified in our culture. They are, though. This crap is why I didn't want to mention their names before. :(

I guess I want to tell you that you are probably as decent and as useful to society as the list of people you "glorify". I'm sure they're all decent people, as most people are, but I'm sure they aren't in any way better than most people.

I agree with that. I only used them in fanfic because they were famous names. It was easier than making people up. Of course, one could argue I did plenty of that too.

Thanks, Gadget. I appreciate your words. Everyone is useful to society and potentially a good person, propaganda or not.

Did Clint Eastwood quit Scientology or did I miss his name on that list. Also what about Will Smith and his wife?

Will & Jada have denied being in the CoS. Of course, there's debate about that since they still honor it in many of the charities they back. I did not know Clint Eastwood was ever a Sci. Patrick Swayze was, once. I knew that. Both Clint and Patrick are great men IMO.

You forgot one person on that list:

Nancy Cartwright, a.k.a. the voice of legendary Bart Simpson. We HAVE to get her out.

Tom Cruise cannot be on that list. I don't care about the oprah couch, or the "we are experts on everything speech" it was what he did to Brooke Sheilds is inexcusable and unforgiveable. It matters not that Brooke may have forgiven him as the damage done cannot be repaired. His insult will cause other women to think twice about getting treatment. Women suffering post partum depression need support not ridicule and insult. Brooke is not Tom's wife, sister, cousin etc. it was none of his business to offer this ludicrous advice in public, let alone in private. This is an unforgiveable offence and demonstrates that he is an arrogant pig.

My biggest beef with Scientology is their attack on those suffering depression, granted other ill-informed churches do the same and are crawling slowly out of faith and into science. Of course any organization not confident in their foundation requires an enemy to keep the troops onside.
