Wow. C'mon now boys and girls! Can't we all just agree to disagree?
ptsAnnon, you have a refreshing and LOGICAL air, and I give you kudos for enlightening others to the concept of "grey area".
Iknowtoomuch, those are some serious convictions you've got. No matter what side of the fence you choose to plant your ass on, slinging pictures of late-term abortions is never the answer!
I don't think ANYONE will argue the fact that it's a horrific area of medical capability, but it truly comes down, as most issues do, to
basic rights, such as the right to decide what happens to your body. Where one person may NEVER consider abortion a possibility in their life, they are able to aknowledge that it may be a medical requirement for someone else and therefore it must remain a legal possibility. I was a Philosophy and Ethics (and Eastern Religious Studies) major in college, and I remember a particular debate on the "beginning of life" as it relates to abortion. I believe the final consensus was the moment the ability to "feel" develops (nerve endings capable of delivering pain signals to the brain). Anyone have any thoughts that DON'T involve skinning me alive?
Holden; Brilliant, thoughtful, graceful and wise as always...you remind me of my favorite Professor in college...
Wirestripper...WOW. I hang out here a lot and "lurk" (kind of dislike that term, makes me feel creepy) and always enjoy reading your posts. We've chatted a time or two when I would post as "Outsider" before I registered. I actually look for threads that you've contributed to because I enjoy your hardcore approach and realistic, unapologetic attitude. For the first time, you made me cringe reading your opinions on Obama and abortion. Although I think I may design a new line of party favors for impending "Fetus Showers"
I don't feel that your opinions are less valuable than mine, but man! Do you really fear a riot when Obama becomes Pres.? (sorry, couldn't help it
) I believe assassination won't take long, but I hope for the best! I'll never be able to afford to be a Republican...although I continue to stand at the window with my nose pressed against it in hopes of one day being allowed in
Great discussion...! Although didn't it all start with a question about the Alaskan Barbie Doll?
