not sure if this goes here or not but can somebody explain or give links to explain why scientology has issues with psychiatric drugs

Honestly, that's just about all there is to it.

I've read a shit load of policies and his books and he never goes into detail about it that I have ever read. He talks quite a lot about Psychiatrists though.

Well, another point is that Hubbard claims that psych drugs alter the brain chemistry to such a degree that a person is no longer able to experience "wins" from auditing. Of course he never conducted such a study, but that is the technical explanation for someone who's been on meds becoming an illegal PC.

And since there is no study on the matter it all comes down to the fact that he simply did'nt like psychs. But if you ask a Scilon, that's the explanation you'll get, more or less.

The reason often given is that dependence on a chemical doesn't address the spiritual aspects of the underlying problem, but rather covers up the symptoms.

A counter argument could be given that chemicals could be used to stabilize a person enough to allow them to get their rudiments in enough that they can start addressing their problems themselves.


There is also a fear that chemicals can make people less aware and more susceptible to engrams.


A far more underlying and unstated reason is LRH's dislike of anything that he perceived as competition or could not otherwise be aligned with his intention or will. At a fundamental level Scientology claims to resolve psychological issues and emotional trama. Psychiatry and psychology claim similar goals through different means. The Freezone is also generally perceived as dangerous for much the same reasons.

Also note that LRH was rejected by the psychiatric establishment when he originally presented his thesis on dianetics to them. Combine this with a view that Scientology is the only way out of prison planet Earth and in just a pinch of paranoia, self-importance, black-white thinking and its not hard to create a few conspiracy theories to explain why everybody is against you.
