I don't know whether he was trained or not, or even if he actually knows anything but I do know the following.

1) The Dianetics commercials you mention from the 80's were actually made by DM's brother Ronnie and former CO CMU, Bill Dendu, and was considered the most successful marketing campaign ever done in Scientology. This was found by a study done at Mad Hatter (Chick Corea's old Sound Studio in Hollywood now a division of Golden Era Productions) around 2004. But the funny thing is, both Ronnie and Bill are now out of the Sea Org and want to have nothing to do with Scientology. Good one Dave, get rid of all the good guys.

2) DM always has about 10 people around him so I am sure if you even thought about fighting back they would jump right in and stop you. Never have seen it, but I have seen people jump in when someone just as much talked back to him.

3) There is an FO (Flag Order) which is basically a Sea Org policy letter and says the requirements for every SO member should be you are OT III and a black belt in Judo. So that is probably where you heard the rumor it was Judo. I guess LRH intended for every Sea Org member to go around kicking the ass of anyone who spreads the Xenu story, I mean their main purpose is to get ethics in??

4)Unlike everyone else in the SO, DM actually gets to be involved in the outside world. I mean just look at pictures of him with the Beckhams at soccer games, pictures of him at TC's wedding, etc. Most SO members have to fight and argue just to go to their families wedding. So I am sure if he wanted he could go to any Dojo anywhere to learn if he really wanted to, but I doubt he actually would lower himself to starting out with a white belt and fighting kids his size. So he probably got "Judo for Dummies" and now is an "expert" in the field just like he is in the tech even though he has never actually trained.
