David Miscavage plundering Scientology wealth?

I have been reconnecting with some old friends, getting more current on the recent actions and history of David Miscavage (DM) and the Church of Scientology. There is a specific thread that would be interesting and valuable to compile, DM’s use of the Church and its reserves as his own personal piggy bank.

I had earlier believed that DM was not using church resources for his own gain or benefit more than would be generally acceptable for his position, but have learned some shocking facts that have made me realize that DM actually is exploiting Scientology resources for his personal benefit.

Here are the first I have found;

RTC building on Gold Base in Hemet that has no staff in it rather than DM in his personal wing. It is a 35,000 square foot cold rolled steel and stone stunning and futuristic palace that cost $75,000,000.00. I have confirmed this cost through two separate sources, one of whom was involved in paying construction costs through Sea Org Reserves, who said that when far from complete over $60,000,000.00 had already been spent. Another said the total was 75 million. Both were credible and their independent reports correlated. What does a $75,000,000.00 building for DM personally and his personal staff have to do with a non profit religion?

DM's $250,000.00 bullet proof van. There are various posts about this van, but the inside scoop is that it actually is a quarter million dollar lead lined white elephant. Little Davey is a little scared and needs to be protected by a lead lined van. Unfortunately Davey doesn't understand automobiles or physics very well, and his design specs have resulted in a vehicle that is so heavy with all the lead that no one wants to drive it as they feel it has the handling and stability of a brick on a beach ball. Apparently, not only does it handle like a watermelon on a water bed, but it is unsafe, unable to stop because of the weight to traction/drive train.

DM also has a $100,000 sports car, a $50,000 custom built high performance motor cycle, a $90,000 Range Rover, and other vehicles.

Questions. Why does someone need a bullet proof van for transportation, secure vehicle like a range rover (as used by the Queen of England), a high performance sports bike, and a couple of sports cars that offer no personal protection? I don't think you can have it both ways in a non profit.

Celebrity wardrobe. Apparently DM has a personal wardrobe that cost an estimated several hundred thousand dollars. No one is allowed to keep track of what he spends on his own wardrobe; cost is apparently hidden or assigned to other areas. Apparently DM has become psychotically angry and violent when confronted with the actual costs of his whims.

Birthday parties for DM and his friends, Cruise, etc. worth hundreds of thousands on the Freewinds.

He has a million dollar gym that in reality is his personal gym (for him and his friends), no other staff can use it without his personal invitation.

How many Scientologists realize they are paying for DM's Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous? What would the IRS think about this?

I know at least a dozen business owners with companies worth tens to a hundred million dollars, none of them have a lifestyle or offices, etc. vaguely near that of DM, none of them have wardrobes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars or quarter million dollar armored vehicles or 75 million dollar personal office buildings.

DM is literally living the life of a billionaire while everyone else is living a life of poverty.

Also, anyone have real specifics on the cost of the Gold Base renovations which Tommy Davis said in the Palms Springs interview was worth hundreds of millions of dollars?

Anyone know where this money came from?

Any other specifics on DM's extravagance?

Wow! That is just insane. No wonder Davey flies off the handle when the subject of money comes up. Apparently he is hiding his spending habits, poorly I might add. How can he think no one would question him?

He can expect no one to question him because he attacks and destroys anyone who does, he has gotten rid of any and all people who could or would stand up to him. You know he has also removed access to management for many/most international statistics?

My question is, how do we get the IRS to re-visit the Church's tax exempt status in the face of this blatant extravagance?

I'm fairly certain the IRS has been bribed and blackmailed into submission just like LAPD and the rest of the authorities that the "church" has come into contact with or feels may have power over them. What we need is a change of management in those sectors, then maybe the new guys will do something. Either that or so much public outcry and media pressure that they collapse. Or I suppose someone could find out what OSA and DM have on the IRS officials and go public with that; then no further blackmail could be done.

True, but the people in charge or the IRS now aren't necessarily the same as who were there when CofS got their tax exemption.
The most effective thing though would probably be a story in the media exposing the extravagance or an organization that has tax-exempt staus but has a leader living like a king.
As a side note, DM has really bad taste in Architecture and design. He apparently re-designed the Super Power building and it looks like some crappy resort on the Vegas strip. And I don't mean some of the new modern resorts that are quite sleek, but something like Caesers Palace. From what I have seen in photos of the Int base he likes to make things look lavish and extravagant, but they end up looking cheap and tacky... just like him.

I don't want to start a flame war over this, but I have to ask. Is there any evidence the IRS is being "intimidated and blackmailed into submission"? Because IMO, if there's one gov't agency immune to that sort of thing, the IRS is it. Also, if there was that kind of malpractice going on, it seems a great number of politicians would want to subject it to congressional investigation and prosecution. Especially what with the IRS being unpopular with most of the American public. I personally think there is no conspiracy, intimidation, or blackmail. IRS leaders in 1993 felt that granting Scientology tax exemption status was the right thing to do, and since then the precedent has not been questioned (a common theme in US government). If there were some sort of underhanded dealings in position to be directed at the government by the CoS, they would have found them during the Snow White arrests or the subsequent lawsuit campaign of Scientology against the IRS. Then tax exemption would never have happened. The US government has tons of proficient investigators on its side, and it would be immune to such things as blackmail and intimidation by a minority religion. Or at least, so it seems to me, given how often they defy the rest of the world's attempts to intimidate them. I personally believe that this whole conspiracy idea is yet another illusion put up by people who can't understand why the world doesn't work according to their demand. Until I see evidence otherwise, beyond the simple assurance of the biased, I will probably go on believing that.

This does not change my matching belief that the CoS's tax exemption status needs serious re-examination, especially if the allegations towards Miscavige in this thread are true. Why does he need a bulletproof limo and all these other extravagances? I think spending CoS money on this stuff is a terrible mistake, and so is silencing anyone who tries to lead from within his shadow. You're mortal, DM, and if you ain't careful, the church you built may be too. One can destroy the future by trying to enjoy the present too much. If DM is making such a mistake, he needs a check and balance. Having to pay taxes would be an excellent start. Perhaps after he loses the Headley lawsuit (I think this is a foregone conclusion, especially after that biased absurd defense Tommy Davis made recently), the possibility will arise.

I didn't even read all of that, but I think I can answer;

They WERE "intimidated into submisson", or at least somehow persuaded to make a deal with the CoS giving it tax-exempt status. The actual recording of the court proceedings is enough to tell you this (look for the "Road to" videos, one of them has it).

However, they ARE not currently under the same leadership who made that deal. Yet, if you know anything of government organizations, you should realize that things like these get lost and forgotten. It's an old case, done and dealt with at the time, why should we bother anymore? So the paperwork gets locked away, never to be seen or remembered by new leadership

I knew a deal was made, but I don't think it was made under coercion. It's impossible to coerce the IRS. They cast down would-be tax evaders all the time. They were the ones who brought down Al Capone back in the day, you think he wouldn't have tried if he could? I don't think Scientology could have coerced the IRS. Convinced them they were a religion and deserved tax exemption, yes, but not coerced them. Find the specific video, see whether it goes into detail about the alleged blackmail conspiracy with real evidence, and gimme the link. Otherwise, please stop being like Alex Jones claiming 9-11 was an inside job when that's crazy and impossible. In other words, docs or STFU.

And don't worry, your agenda is still safe even without the CoS coercing the US gov't. The critics of Scientology whom I agree with are the ones who say believing in the religion is fine, but committing abuse in its name is not. The Scis I call friends are in agreement with this principle, and they are living positively with their faith as best they can, not contributing to the abuse. Unless, of course, you count just being Scientologist as an abuse. I don't, no more than I place all Christians in the same boat with losers like Pat Robertson and Fred Phelps.

Hopefully one day the CoS will reform and people will be able to stay inside avoiding the negatives without guilt and misunderstanding. I know that such a change will have to come from within. A loss of the Headley case would be a great wake-up call. So would a subsequent review and revocation of the CoS's tax exemption. I can concur that might be a good thing, considering all the evil they are perpetuating. Yes, I know, one could argue they've had plenty wake up calls already. Snow White, Freakout, Jeff Hawkins, Lisa McPherson, Jason Beghe, Mike Rinder, etc, etc, etc. Maybe their mistakes will continue and they'll eventually collapse under trying to address the consequences. Some of you want that.

I myself would be okay with it too, I have to admit, as long as the people I care about who depend on Scientology turned out ok when the dust had settled. I think they might. They're strong smart folks, they'd bounce back. They might end up in the Freezone, where one could argue they've already been for decades in their hearts and attitudes. Or they would keep the self-motivation Scientology gave them and make their own lives, the way so many ex-members have already. The way they do every day. Yeah, that might be nice. I'll still be their friend when it happens, and I won't dehumanize them. I will not lose faith in their character, not unless they speak to me directly and take it away. If that happens, all will see the tracks of my tears. I'm not going to make it happen early by hating, though. I am not comfortable with walking down that road, and I know the price of not doing so while still monitoring this situation and praying for its victims on all sides is eternal vigilance. I am numb and resigned to that now.
