Survey for ex-scientologists ages 25-40
The lady is doing a study on people raised in cultic environments for her PhD. I've agreed to be interviewed and she needs a few more people who grew up in Scientology are are now between the ages of 25-40. "I am writing to ask whether you will consider participating in a research study that Patricia Millar is conducting to fulfill the requirements of her Ph.D. degree at Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA. Her dissertation study seeks to learn more about processes of adult identity development for those who grew up in what some people call high-demand, closed, or “cultic” groups. The group does not need to have been housed in one location, but the belief system and practices of the group needs to have been a distinct and impactful part of everyday life during childhood for at least five years. Using life story interviews to access the lived experience of participants, Patricia will gather valuable insights about the processes involved when people grapple with competing ideologies and make self-defining choices.
In Phase One, an online survey will be used to gather basic information from a large number of participants. In Phase Two, Patricia will interview people who want to share their stories and experiences about transitioning into adult life in more depth.
The study will include individuals who (1) identify themselves as having grown up in a cultic, closed or high-demand group that impacted their daily life; (2) lived there for at least 5 years between birth and age 21; and (3) were at least 16 years old when they left the group.

Participation in this study is completely voluntary. The information that you share will be kept entirely confidential. The total time commitment for the entire research process will be no more than three hours. Phase One includes an initial telephone screen and a short background survey, which together take no more than 30 minutes. A small number of participants (15-20) will go on to Phase Two, which includes an in-depth interview (up to 2 hours) and a brief follow-up phone call. "
