Your paper was valuable to me, had to read it a few times before I could accept it, a lot of emotion connected to the subject.

I have shared it with several other people and it created similar reactions or at least got a "wow!".

Again, I, we appreciate your and other anon resolve to not only tackle this bear, but to care and share with those of us recovering from our experience as well.

The Motivation of a “Cult Leader ”

By most accounts, the assumption and allegation that L. Ron Hubbard was the creator and is the mastermind behind a cult-like religion called “ Scientology” is a valid one. Lafayette Ron Hubbard who penned the book ; “Dianetics” and formed the “Church of Scientology” has been a controversial figure in regards to his writings and subsequent inception of a “new religion” since it’s formation in 1950’s.
Hubbard was famous for motivational audio programs as well as his outspoken contempt for science, psychology, psychiatry even though most of his writings are rooted withnin psychology. It has been proven that Hubbard stole many of his supposed “original” ideas and “genius” from many noted psychologists:
“ Scientology is a twisting together of many threads. Ron Hubbard's first system, Dianetics, which emerged in 1950, owes much to early Freudian ideas (2). For example, Hubbard's "Reactive Mind" obviously derives from Freud's "Unconscious". The notion that this mind thinks in identities comes from Korzybski's General Semantics. Initially, before deciding that he was the sole source of Dianetics and Scientology (3), Hubbard acknowledged his debt to these thinkers (4). Dianetics bears marked similarites to work reported by American psychiatrists Grinker and Speigel (5) and English psychiatrist William Sargant (6). The first edition of Hubbard's 1950 text Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health (7) carried an advertisment for a book published a year earlier (8). Psychiatrist Nandor Fodor had been writing about his belief in the residual effects of the birth trauma for some years, following in the footsteps of Otto Rank. In lectures given in 1950, Hubbard also referred to works on hynopsis which had obviously influenced his techniques (9). Scientologists as a rule, and as believers in L Ron Hubbard’s every written word ,hate psychologists, psychiatrists or any mental health professional. They are taught that the “Psychs”-(term used for psychologists) are the most evil beings on earth and are the reason that the world is in disarray. In their teachings; 75 million years ago “psychs” destroyed the earth.

LRH, was a scince fiction writer who dreamt of hitting it big! If no one wanted his books he had other ideas.........

"Around this time he was invited to address a science fiction group in Newark hosted by the writer, Sam Moskowitz. `Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous,' he told the meeting. `If a man really wanted to make a million dollars, the best way to do it would be start his own religion.” (Russel 1990)
How Hubbard motivated other people to believe his outlandish ideas, follow his doctrines and carry out his fantasies is mysterious to me, but is well documented and apparent with the interest Scientology still generates. With high profile members, and secretive practices, covert “auditing” (which is similiar to a lie-detecting session) and an endless in flow of money coming in from those high profile members, Scientologists recruit new members aggressively with sales techniques and scare tactics enough to motivate the most ardent of critics.
While it is recognized as a religious organization, it is clear that this cult hides behind the tax-free status of religion. The promise of a “balanced, healthy , free of sickness life” brings in the weak or lost people looking for a way out of their troubled lives or unhappy routines. Or people who are just looking for a way to help..... In researching this subject , searching for the motivation of the church, founder and, members---the one thing seemed clear and motivational :The only God in this organization is money. The Church of Scientology has wreaked havoc on the Dow Jones, torn apart families, commtted “psychological terrorism” on those who came to the church searching for help and has thousands of lawsuits pending from former members and victims whom have beed silenced by the church. It is no secret that this group has committed murder, racketeering,, mafioso style intimidation tactics, and is a threat to all decent human beings.
There have been thousands of frivolous lawsuits filed to silence, slow, deter and financially devastate opponents of scientology, former members have been stalked, brutalized and scared into silence. There are hundreds of corportions that have served as a front for scientology, like “Narconon , Applied Scholastics, Sterling business mgnt, WISE, etc; Most are set up to follow through on Scientology’s anti-psych stance, to slow drug approvals, intoduce legislation to block or critique psychiatric practices.
“Scientologists lobby heavily to eliminate government funding for psychiatric treatment and research, and works hard to defeat laws that would require insurance companies to pay for psychiatric treatment in the same way they pay for other medical treatments (often known as funding parity laws). Scientologists also often testify at legislative hearings on proposed laws affecting mental health treatment, claiming there's no scientific basis for the medical treatment of psychiatric illnesses. Lawmakers are rarely aware that Scientologists believe psychiatrists have been directly causing every problem known to humans for the past many millions of years.
In addition, Scientology front group CCHR brings lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies (seen by Scientologists as evil for making and selling psychiatric medications). These lawsuits cost taxpayer dollars in the form of court costs, and further increase the costs of a wide range of medications by forcing drug companies - who often manufacture a wide range of drugs and rarely restrict themselves to psychiatric medications - to spend money on the case.”-(Scientology Lies ,Wachter 2001)

L Ron Hubbard’s ability to lead is questionable, he was a man who had a well documented history of psychological problems. Maybe that is where the violent hatred for the mental health profession originated, more likely it is the dismissal of his work by accomplished, EDUCATED professionals. He had a vivid imagination and made a living for a time as a sci-fi writer, he lied about ALL academic and military achievements, meaning there were none. His records from his short college career, and military stay have been published to let people know of his deceptions. He claimed to be a nuclear physicist, decorated was hero, and “over come” blindness and paralysis by his use of “Dianetics”. Or his borrowed techniques.all that have been proven to be lies.
The Motivational theory displayed here is the” The need to belong”: Hubbard, spent years failing as a writer, a family man, an occultist,(His interest in the occult has been well documented and his own son had called him a worshipper of Satan!) failing as a military man, and a college drop-out . He may have felt that he didn’t belong, so he started his own world, which he controlled and dictated .He created his own “religion”, even his own language to control the way people thought and sought to destroy all credibility afforded mental health proffesionals. When the APA-(American Psychology Association) dismissed “DIANETICS” as an obvious twist on already published theories, with NO peer reviews, testing or any application of the scientific method. Hubbard declared war on the “psyches”. There ia an article in Rolling Stone magazine from 2006 that really is an eye-opener, the brainwashing, and intimidation is just plain scary. People are afraid to leave the church, or speak out against it’s questionable practices and beliefs. What motivates a cult leader? money. power. control.
