Why do so many celebs join?

It's all about ego for celebrities. They seem to be treated like royalty as they are undoubtly important assets. Celebrites live in a fantasy world where they have a inflated view of their importance to the world. Scientology feeds this view, since the dream (illusion) of the Scilon is to become "Gods" (OT's). Do they care about the people who are hurt by the CO$, I doubt it. How many people did they have to "step over" to achieve their fame?

With all the exposure the CO$ is getting it is becoming harder for the Scilons to recruit celebrites. It is becoming carrer suicide to be associated with the cult (ie. Katie Holmes). Hopefully Will Smith is smart enough to realize this.

There are people who were fairly well-known at the time they were in who left, though I wouldn't call them big stars. Diana Canova (who was on the TV series "Soap") left. So did Peggy Lipton of "Mod Squad" and her brother, Robert.

Christopher Reeve was in briefly and left, though I am pretty sure it was before he became famous. He talked a bit about his experiences in a book a few years back. He was cautious and diplomatic in what he said (along the lines of "It helps some people..."), but he made it clear he had no use for it. I don't think he was involved long enough to encounter any horror stories.
