I was about to go to bed and the urge to wiki hit me and somehow I ended up here. I've never liked Scientology mostly because whenever someone asks a question about my religion, Christian Science (which is itself pretty weird) they get confused with Scientology. Now I have no problems with what they believe, the OT3 stuff sounds way crazy but if that is their faith, who am I to judge? I happen to think that everyone has the power to do crazy Jesus magic (not exactly, but you get the point).
What I cannot abide is the hypocrisy of their "church". They want protection from persecution so they can persecute as they see fit. Their code of ethics is warped, primitive, and dangerous for those around them. The media that satirizes Scientology goes the easy road and talks about Xenu which only does 2 things. On the plus side it makes people think twice before joining if they haven't already, but on the other hand it galvanizes and even enrages those who feel their religion is being mocked. More needs to be done to enlighten people as to the dangerous methods the church uses against its enemies rather than make xenu jokes.
Scientology, like all religions, isn't just a believe structure, it's a community. Those in that community, much like in a Lutheran church, a Jewish Temple, a Muslim Mosque, or pagans doing their thing wherever they do it, feel supported by the common thread of the others and when one feels attacked, the rest feel the same.
I support any action that helps to dismantle the church of Scientology as an institution. Whoever is in charge is ruining lives for their own gain. This website is one of the best tools I have seen. It is not hateful, angry, impulsive, or inflammatory. The information is laid out clearly for any and all to see and creates a community for those who wish to leave to have support of their fellow man. This site makes me wish I were raised a Scientologist just so I can leave and share war stories with the creators.
Changing gears a little here: call me crazy but I follow the teachings of a man named Jesus. I'm one in a million, I know. Here's the thing though, he said to love thy fellow man. The typical Scientologist, hell your typical christian muslim bhudist atheist just wants to belong to a community, to feel life has meaning, and to be supported and successful. Instead of us in the outside world making them feel we hate them, we need to show them how they can be loved out here too. *steps down from soap box* |

| That was a lovely, thought out post. I think you are right about the underlying need to feel part of a community. |
