A Scientologist Dr's advice was that statistically if you only try to treat cancer with alternative methods, your chances are worse than if you at least incorporate conventional medical treatment.
I'd push that taking responsibility for your condition means dealing with the situation as it is now instead of focusing on what the possible causes may have been. I'd tell him he should think about dealing with this as medical issue his body has. Needless lives have been lost because of screwing around and coming to the decision to get aggressive about medical treatment too late. I'm not sure where the pressure to avoid medical treatment when medically advised comes from.
If he seems hesitant, let him read Tommy Davis's recent statement in response to Jett's untimely death, “Scientologists seek conventional medical treatment for medical conditions. Scientologists use prescription drugs when physically ill and also rely on the advice and treatment of medical doctors. The church does not involve itself in the diagnosis or classification of any medical condition.”
It seems very irresponsible for his parents encourage him to waste what could be critical time. If this does end up costing him his life, it may end up being a decision that is very hard for them to live with. I wish your family member a speedy recovery.
