This is all getting very confusing. It is well known that knights are known as "Sir," e.g., Sir Laurence Olivier, famed British actor. But I have also read that members of the CMO, even the very young girls, are to be addressed as "Sir."
Picture this:
A knighted IAS Patron encounters a young female Commodore's Messenger.
"Knight": (nods head) SIR!
Messenger: (returns nod respectfully) SIR!
